WINTER 2001

Allen Russell, Director of Chaplaincy

An old hymn reads, "Troublesome times are here, filling men's hearts with fear. Freedom we all hold dear now is at stake". The song continues, "turning men's hearts toward God". The primary goal of CBAmerica chaplains is to turn men's hearts toward God. Since the September 11th terrorist attacks we have had an unprecedented number of applicants for many different Chaplaincy ministries. Presently I am working with sixteen candidates in different phases of the endorsement process. Our chaplains are experiencing heavier workloads and are being asked tough questions about who and where God is in all of these events. Please keep us in your prayers during these exciting days of ministry.

Sam and Becky Trommler - Campus Ambassadors, Phoenix, AZ.

Sam is serving with Mission To The Americas on college campuses in the Phoenix area. CBAmerica endorsed Sam as a chaplain to specialized settings for ministry in local community colleges, sports teams, nursing homes and hospitals. In a recent letter the Trommlers mentioned wide open doors of ministry on the college campus. Pray for the students to whom they minister.

Daniel and Carol Viveros - Tulare, CA.

Life has suddenly been changed for the Viveros family. Dan is a California Army National Guard chaplain whose unit was mobilized for duty up to a year. Dan was a high school teacher until word of deployment came. His unit is now in Utah where they will provide security for several military installations and the Winter Olympics. Pray for their family during this year of separation and for the new ministry open to Daniel. Sunday services and weekly Bible studies are already seeing results.

Jim and Peggy Donnelly - Souderton, PA.

Jim was just notified that his Army Reserve unit was to be mobilized to Fort Drum, NY for a year or more to replace soldiers deployed overseas. Jim has been involved in a family business near Philadelphia. This means a major shift for their family. Pray for Jim and the open doors of ministry he will find at Fort Drum and for Peggy back home with two teenagers.

David and Michelle Grover - Andover, NH.

Dave serves in the Air Force Reserves. He recently was called up for extra duty to minister at the Pentagon just after the September 11th terrorist attack. Dave was able to minister to FBI agents involved in the investigation. He is now looking into moving into the Army National Guard in New Hampshire. There is only one other chaplain serving the New Hampshire Guard and he is also a CBAmerica chaplain. Several states now are desperate for chaplains - New Hampshire and Pennsylvania among them.

Chuck and Erica Searl - West Linn, WA.

Chuck was just endorsed for active duty in the Army Chaplaincy. He graduates from Western Seminary in May. He was on staff with the Navigators for three years and has considerable military experience in the Navy, Navy Reserves and Army National Guard. Pray that an Army board meeting soon will select Chuck.

Dan and Linda Larson - Buena Vista, Co.

Dan retired from the Army Chaplaincy in March. The Larsons were recently called to pastor Mountain Heights Baptist Church in Buena Vista, CO. Dan begins his ministry in early January. Pray for them as they transition from the military into this new civilian ministry.

Karl and Lynn Helwig - Saint Croix Falls, WI.

Karl was recently appointed a chaplain in the Civil Air Patrol with a unit near his home in Wisconsin. Pray for him in this opportunity to minister to many young people and influence them in areas of religion, morals and values. Some of the best youth ministries take place in the military and Civil Air Patrol.

Daniel and Linda Klender - Walla Walla, WA.

Dan pastors Grace Bible Church in Walla Walla, WA. CBAmerica recently endorsed Dan as a chaplain to the Navy Reserves. Dan is a Western Seminary graduate. A Navy board will soon meet to decide on new chaplains. Pray that Dan will be selected.
