SUMMER 2004

Allen Russell “I am the LORD, and I do not change” Malachi 3:6. We live in a world of rapid change. Our president recently announced the military would make a major troop realignment to give us a more rapid response force. Gas prices keep changing. Attempts are being made to change the definition of marriage in our country. As chaplains we have a life changing message to share with others as we serve a changeless God! He is the same, yesterday, today and forever! Our chaplains report people experiencing life-changes as they encounter our unchanging God. Pray for our chaplains as they share this message.

Allen Russell Director of Chaplaincy

Ralph Monsen Ralph Monsen
Ralph, formerly the Director of Chaplaincy and Treasurer with CBA from 1974-1993, was ushered into the presence of the Lord June 4, 2004. Ralph has been living on only 10 percent of his heart’s capacity. While Ralph was in the hospital, his daughters Margie arrived from Ecuador and Mimi from Colorado, together with his wife Jan they sang and prayed him into the arms of God whom he had served so well. Jan wrote, “as we sang one of his favorite hymns, the Old Rugged Cross and came to the line ‘I will cling to the old rugged cross and exchange it some day for a crown’, Ralph entered his heavenly home. We thank the Lord for his ministry with CBAmerica.

Lynne Crooks LYNNE PARKER CROOKS – Aurora, CO Police Chaplain

Lynne wrote recently, “Do you have some real prayer-warriors who would be willing to take on a woman police chaplain and pray regularly for her ministry?” In response, I told her I would mention this request in FRONTLINE and see if we could raise some prayer support for her among our churches. Lynne has her Masters Degree in counseling/Chaplaincy from Denver Seminary. She has served seven years as a Law Enforcement chaplain. Her husband Keith is a Sergeant in the Aurora Police Department and supports her ministry. Many police departments do not view chaplains as a necessity since officers can attend their own church. However many do not attend nor do they have a defined faith. Many have never heard the Gospel. If you are interested in partnering in prayer with Lynne you can receive more information from our office.

Dermot Thiel DERMOT AND PAULA THIEL – Civil Air Patrol, Laramie, WY
Dermot is one of our newest chaplains in the Civil Air Patrol. He was appointed July 20, 2004. He also serves in the Air Force working with Air Force ROTC students at the University of Wyoming – Laramie Campus. Their family is actively involved in Faith Community Church in Laramie. Pray for the contacts he has with students at the university as well as in the Civil Air Patrol.

Mark Campbell MARK AND SHELLY CAMPBELL – Air Force – Cannon AFB, Clovis, NM
Change is coming to he Campbell house. Shelly, an Air Force nurse, will become a student at a medical school in Austin, TX for the next two years while Mark works at Cannon Air Base. He will leave on a four-month deployment to Iraq after the first of the year. Mark recently introduced a young airman to a personal relationship with Christ. Many stood around the Base pool watching as Mark baptized him. Pray for Mark’s family during this time of separation, Mark in his ministry and Shelly in her studies.

Karl Helwig KARL AND LYNN HELWIG – Civil Air Patrol – St. Croix, MN

Karl was named Chaplain Specialist of the year for the Minnesota Wing, Civil Air Patrol. Three years ago he joined the Civil Air Patrol. He has led in invocations, prayers for meals, counsels those who have moral or spiritual concerns, gives devotionals, teaches the Moral Values Class and is responsible for the ethical, moral and spiritual direction of the St. Croix Squadron. Pray for Karl in his ministries and for other Civil Air Patrol chaplains serving across our nation. <
