Joshua 1:9 "I command you - be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go." This verse is printed on a small metal disk attached to the chain on which many soldiers place their dog tag ID's. It is there to help them remember the Lord is with them as they face this war on terror. In a recent article on chaplains, Oliver North said, "On Easter Sunday in Iraq and Afghanistan, where our troops brave these dangers daily, tens of thousands of young Americans will attend Resurrection services, where they will pray for their enemies. Those who lead those Easter rituals...are garbed in the same sun-bleached camouflage as the troops kneeling before them. We call them chaplains. They are part of what makes us 'different' from our enemy- and they are a remarkable lot...They minister to a 'flock' - one of the youngest in the world - full of Americans only a few months out of high school. all of whom are scared, show it or not."
North goes on toe say, 'By the time these 'parishioners' return to the United States, they will have confronted more suffering and death - and had more responsibility - than their civilian contemporaries will experience the rest of their lives. Yet, if the statistics are right, the veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan have a lower incidence of 'Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome' than any troops in history. Thanks for that should go, in part, to the chaplains." Continue to pray for eight of our CBAmerica chaplains in Iraq and chaplains ministering to the families back home.
One of our chaplains in Iraq wrote about how God used a dog to prevent an attack on their base. The insurgents were attempting a frontal attack on the main gate of the base with Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPG's). They were almost completely concealed. The American soldier guarding the gate noticed a dog sitting by the side of the road. In Iraq, dogs on the road are usually walking so the guard was using his situational awareness. The dog was looking at something so the guard looked in the direction the dog was looking, saw the enemy, fired his M-16 and prevented an attack on the base. This is just one story of God's protection and answered prayer.
